Galaxy Fixation Gemini System

The Galaxy Fixation Gemini™ System is a modular external fixation system for fracture treatments of lower and upper limbs. The Galaxy Fixation Gemini™ System can be used as a hybrid system in conjunction with Orthofix circular external fixators.

  • Universal clamps can connect different diameters of bone screws (4, 6 mm) and rods (6, 9 ,12 mm)
  • Markers on clamp slots to easily identify rod and pin diameter for each clamp slot
  • Single clamps can perform rod-to-rod coupling and pin-to-rod coupling:
    • Time-saving – reduced fixator application time
    • Reduced mistakes in choosing the proper component during surgery
  • Clamps snap-in mechanism for pins and rods: enhanced ease of use of the fixator, reducing time for frame assembling
  • Hand-tightening pre-closure mechanism:
    • Simplified intra-operative reduction adjustment
    • Fast frame assembly
    • No need for instruments for primary frame stabilization/closure
  • Wrench definitive tightening mechanism:
    • Provide adequate stability for the frame after final closure
  • In ready to use sterile kits suitable for DCO management
  • All in one tray – implants and instrumentation

Patient Benefits

Galaxy Fixation Gemini™ System is designed as an external fixator for definitive treatment of long bone fractures. The patient won’t need a second surgery if the reduction is successful.

Bone screw diameters and inter-axis (in multipin clamps) are compatible with other Orthofix external fixators for definitive treatment conversion.

Surgeon Benefits

Single clamps can perform rod-to-rod coupling and pin-to-rod coupling, decreasing the number of components. This helps surgeons and nurses easily identify the components they need for creating a specific frame.

Initial hand-tightening pre-closure mechanism allows frame manipulation without using any instruments, while performing reduction maneuvers and X-rays intra-operative controls.

Initial hand-tightening pre-closure mechanism allows the surgeon to perform intra-operative controls without holding the frame during X-ray scan, which helps in potentially limiting the surgeon’s X-ray exposure during fixator application.

Compared with the Galaxy Fixation™ System, the closure mechanism has been modified: bigger black knurled knob (for an easier hand tightening) and double side arrows (for easier wrench tightening).

Indications

The Galaxy Fixation Gemini™ System is intended to provide bone fixation.

The Galaxy Fixation Gemini™ System is indicated for:

  • fractures, non-union/pseudoarthrosis, soft tissue defects of long bones
  • vertically stable pelvic fractures or as a treatment adjunct to vertically unstable pelvic fractures
  • elbow dislocations, stiffness, contractures

Contraindications

DO NOT USE the Galaxy Fixation Gemini™ System if a surgical candidate exhibits or is predisposed to any of the following contraindications:

  • mental or physiological conditions who are unwilling or incapable of following postoperative care instructions
  • severe osteoporosis*
  • severe, poorly controlled diabetes mellitus
  • compromised vascularity
  • previous infections
  • malignancy in the fracture area
  • suspected or documented metal sensitivity reactions
  • neuromuscular deficit or any other conditions that could influence the healing process
  • HIV positive
  • suspected or documented metal sensitivity reactions as it could result in a treatment failure in the intended population.

* As defined by the World Health Organization: “Bone mineral density of 2.5 standard deviations or more below the mean peak bone mass (average of young, healthy adults) in presence of one or more fragility fractures”.
