Testimonials

On August 28, 2004, I had just taken off from Payson, Arizona in my sport plane when I encountered a severe windsheer, which forced us into the ground in a rugged wilderness area. It took rescuers five hours to reach us and get my passenger and I to the hospital, by which time I had stopped breathing due to blood loss from the compound fracture of my left tibia. Both tibias were shattered in the accident. Because of the burns on my skin and the necessary skin grafts, rods and pins were not options for stabilizing my leg bones, so external fixators were attached. Fourteen months after the accident that nearly killed me, I walked into the medical examiner’s office for a flight physical. After an hour and a half of paperwork and a physical examination, the doctor pronounced me fit to fly and I left with a new Class III medical certificate. Just before Christmas I flew my Piper Turbo Arrow to Denver to visit my brother and his family. I cannot tell you how incredibly fortunate I feel to be able to get back in the saddle again and do something that I love so much.

I want to get the word out … so that others who suffer complex foot and ankle breaks will know about the Orthofix External Fixation option. If I hadn’t found Dr. Rodriguez in Chicago, I may have opted for amputation.
