Description of Courses and Symposia 2006

Trauma Principles  (16-17 Mar, 04-05 Dec)

These courses will cover the Orthofix philosophy and the basic principles of  external fixation, looking at  all phases of fracture management (from application to removal of the fixator) in order to enable participants to become acquainted with key points for the correct and safe use of our products.

The use of Orthofix fixators in different anatomical sites will be described for a wide range of Trauma indications. These courses will be addressed to surgeons and nurses within the same department who will start using external fixation in order to get them acquainted with the use and maintenance of our products and with the management of a patient’s post-operative care.

Advanced Trauma (20-22 Feb, 29-31 May, 13-15 Sept, 22-24 Nov)

As stated above, these courses will extend over three full days and on the last day either the PCCP or CentroNail Systems will be covered.
More precisely:
PCCP on 20-22 Feb and 22-24 Nov
CentroNail on 29-31 May and 13-15 Sept

This course will deal with the treatment of difficult fractures, e.g. those involving the joints, and fractures which can be life-threatening, and is designed for surgeons who already have experience with external fixation and now want to share their knowledge with International experts. It is not suitable for beginners.

Symposia

These will provide attending surgeons with a comprehensive update on selected topics. They will feature the opportunity for delegates to interact with surgeons who have a particular expertise in the relevant subjects, which will be: Foot & Ankle, Limb Reconstruction of the Lower Limb, Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedics, and Upper Extremity. The Symposia are also designed for expert surgeons and not for beginners.

Foot and Ankle (27-28 Apr)

This symposium will look specifically at the role of external and internal fixation in the management of acute trauma to the foot and ankle, the sequelae of trauma and different procedures for the reconstruction of congenital or acquired foot pathology.  The faculty will consist of leading specialists in the field from both the USA and Europe.

Post-Traumatic Reconstruction (12-13 June)

This symposium will focus specifically on correction of post-traumatic and congenital deformities. While it is an established treatment in lengthening, Orthofix external fixation has now widely extended its indications in angular and rotational deformities with the Sheffield Ring Fixator System and the LRS gradual and acute  correction clamps. Also, the ISKD will be described for intramedullary lengthening of the tibia and femur.

Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedics (02-03 Oct)

The role of external fixation in this field is becoming increasingly recognised, particularly in view of the improved daily life and the low incidence of complications associated with this treatment

Upper Extremity (06-07 Nov)

This symposium will focus specifically on Trauma and Orthopaedic indications in the upper limb. It will include the use of internal and external fixation in the humerus, elbow, radius, wrist and hand, for the treatment of fractures, fracture/dislocations, deformities and joint problems.

Internal Fixation (30-31 Mar, 23-24 Oct)

In this course the wide range of Orthofix internal fixation products (i.e. plates and nails) will be described both for the lower and upper limbs.
