Code of Conduct
Orthofix Inc. employees and agents shall comply with all applicable laws and regulations that affect its various businesses.
- In an effort to discourage and avoid Fraud and Abuse, it is the intent and commitment of Orthofix Inc. to uniformly comply with all Federal and State statutes, rules, regulations, and Federal, State and private payor health care program requirements. As a company, Orthofix Inc. will exhibit to all employees and outside entities an example in integrity and ethics. Through written policies and procedures, Orthofix Inc. will confirm these principals and guide its employees in conducting business professionally and properly.
- It is the expectation, requirement and responsibility of each and every employee to follow written policies and procedures and maintain a high level of integrity by complying with all rules and regulations set forth by Federal, State and Local agencies.
- Orthofix will not pursue any business opportunity that requires engaging in unethical or illegal activity.
- No employee shall accept any fee, compensation, gift, payment of expense, or any other thing of monetary value in circumstances in which acceptance may result in, or create the appearance of resulting in, referrals; purchasing, leasing, or ordering or arranging of any good, facility service or item paid for by any Federal program; preferential treatment of any person; any loss of complete independence or impartiality.
- No employee or agent is authorized to enter into any joint venture, partnership or other risk sharing arrangement with any entity that is a potential or actual referral source unless the arrangement has been reviewed and approved by the Counsel as appropriate.
- Orthofix will bill only for services actually rendered and which are fully documented in patients' medical records. If services must be coded, then only billing codes that accurately describe the services provided will be utilized.
- Employees or agents who perform billing and/or coding of claims must take every reasonable precaution to ensure that their work is accurate, timely and in compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations and Orthofix polices.
- No claims for payment or reimbursement of any kind that are false, fraudulent, inaccurate or fictitious may be submitted. No falsification of medical, time or other records that are used for the basis of submitting claims will be tolerated.
- Orthofix shall act promptly to investigate, correct and disclose the problem if errors in claims that have been submitted are discovered.
- Orthofix shall maintain complete and thorough medical and billing records.
- In an effort to promote integrity, foster trust and support objectivity, it is important for the employee to know that Orthofix Inc. will process patient and/or employee complaints discretely and expeditiously, maintaining anonymity whenever possible. Thorough, unbiased consideration will be applied in all cases.
- Additionally, each employee is expected to preserve patient's rights to privacy by receiving and conveying medical records or information in the most discrete manner possible. This information is to be used exclusively for the purpose of processing prescriptions, insurance claims and/or clinical outcome studies where authorized. Any other unauthorized use of this information is strictly prohibited.
- Employees and agents shall promptly report all suspected violations of the Code of conduct, Compliance Guidelines, operational policies, laws or regulations to their manager or supervisor, through the Confidential Compliance Line, or Compliance Officer
